Loenhout holds a special place in women's cyclocross. The Azencross held its first women's race in 1998, the first Belgian cross to do so, and Daphny van den Brand won that edition on her way to six victories. The women face the same village course, with its washboard of bumps, its bridge and ditches, and mud that is rarely absent at the end of December. Lucinda Brand has won it three times, most recently in 2025. In 2023 Sanne Cant took her first win of the season in the Loenhout mud, her fifth Azencross, beating Kristýna Zemanová by 28 seconds. A year later Cant fell and slipped on the penultimate lap, and her Crelan-Corendon teammate Marion Norbert-Riberolle, who had missed her start, came through to win. The race returned to the Trofee in 2025 and remains one of the traditional Christmas-week dates for the women's field.
