The Bollekescross is back in Zogge, in Hamme in East Flanders, after an absence of thirteen years. Organiser Jurgen Mettepenningen founded it in 2002 on his own doorstep, it became a Superprestige round from the 2004–05 season, and at its peak it drew up to 20,000 spectators before he sold it in 2013 and the Hamme race moved to another site. About 95 percent of the old course has been kept, a circuit of short climbs, staircases and flyovers that the old supporters remember mostly for its mud. In 2010 heavy rain turned it into what one report likened to a cross-country run, and Sven Nys beat Klaas Vantornout by four seconds, gaining on the rideable parts after Vantornout attacked on the long running section. Nys won seven of the twelve editions, Zdeněk Štybar won twice, and Niels Albert ended a long dry spell by winning the last one in 2013. Its return revives one of the favourite venues of the 2000s.
