The women's Koppenbergcross has been raced on the cobbled hill above Oudenaarde since 2002, when Laurence Leboucher won the first edition. The steep cobbled ramp is ridden by those strong enough and run by everyone else, and the descents through the fields gather mud. Helen Wyman holds the record with four wins. Since 2021 the race has carried the name of Jolien Verschueren, the Belgian who won here in 2015 and 2016, and who died of brain cancer in 2021 at the age of 31. The first race in her name went to the American Clara Honsinger, who pulled away from Denise Betsema near the end and held her off by 12 seconds. Fem van Empel then won three in a row before Lucinda Brand took the 2025 edition. It opens the women's Trofee and carries particular meaning in Belgian cross.
