Stage Preview

An easy-looking day with more history at the finish than anywhere else on the route. The stage begins in the hills of the Sierra de Aracena and descends steadily to the Atlantic coast of Huelva, under 1,200 metres of climbing and nothing steep after the first hour. It ends at La Rábida, beside the monastery where Columbus lodged while seeking backing for his voyage, and at Palos de la Frontera, the port he sailed from in August 1492. Coming straight off the rest day and finishing flat beside the sea, it should be a sprint, but crosswinds off the Atlantic are a genuine threat in the closing kilometres.
