The first true mountain-top finish. The race turns inland from the Valencian coast and climbs into Teruel, gaining more than 3,100 metres before the closing ascent to the ski station at Aramón Valdelinares, 10 km at 5.7% topping out just under 2,000 metres. Valdelinares is among the highest villages in Spain and the finish is high enough for altitude to matter. No part of the gradient is severe, but it arrives after a day of almost continuous climbing, and it is long enough to sort the general classification properly for the first time.
