The individual time trial World Championship is the race of truth, one rider alone against the clock for the rainbow jersey. The 2026 edition opens the Montréal Worlds with a course of around 39 kilometres along the Saint Lawrence River and over the city's bridges, lumpy enough to reward all-rounders rather than pure power riders. Fabian Cancellara and Tony Martin share the record with four titles each, the two great time triallists of their generations. More recently Remco Evenepoel has dominated the discipline. There is nowhere to hide in a time trial, which is what makes it the purest test in the sport. The fastest rider on the day simply wins.
