The women's race at Gavere climbs and drops over the steep, wooded banks of the Scheldt beside Grenier castle, and when it rains the slopes turn to thick mud that saps strength lap after lap. A women's race was added in 2000, when Hanka Kupfernagel won, and Sanne Cant holds the record with four straight wins from 2013 to 2016. Since the race joined the World Cup in December 2022 it has had a different winner every year: Shirin van Anrooij, Puck Pieterse, Fem van Empel and Lucinda Brand. Pieterse's win in 2023 stood out, because it ended Van Empel's run of eleven straight victories. Held on 26 December, it is one of the heaviest tests of the Christmas period and usually goes to the rider with the most strength left at the end.
