The women's Duinencross crosses the same coastal dunes at Koksijde, where the sand is so deep and loose that much of each lap becomes a contest of running strength and line choice. A women's race was first held in 2003, when Hanka Kupfernagel won. Katie Compton holds the record with four wins, and Marianne Vos won the world title here in 2012, one of her seven. Recent winners include Shirin van Anrooij, Fem van Empel and Puck Pieterse. When the race returned to the World Cup in December 2025, Lucinda Brand beat her teammate Van Anrooij by 36 seconds, a day after winning on the Antwerp beach. A win at Koksijde shows that a rider can handle the hardest sand of the season.
