Namur's women have raced on the hillsides beneath the citadel since the first Citadelcross in 2009, when Daphny van den Brand won. The course is steep and technical, with hard climbs, cobbled stretches and off-camber descents where one lapse in concentration can cost a race, especially in the rain. Lucinda Brand has the most wins with five, four of them in a row from 2018 to 2021, and in December 2025 she rode away on the opening lap to take another. Fem van Empel won the 2022 European title on this hill, and Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado won the World Cup races of 2023 and 2024. Earlier winners include Marianne Vos and Katie Compton. Coming in the Christmas period, Namur is one of the most technical tests of the women's season.
