World Cup Hamme is a new round in the East Flanders town of Hamme, raced around the Mirabrug, the bridge over the Durme made famous by the 1971 film Mira. Its history is that of the Flandriencross, held at the same Meulenbroek and Mirabrug site from 2014 and named after Greg Van Avermaet, who grew up in Hamme. The venue is a low-lying riverside park that is prone to mud. The new organiser, Jurgen Mettepenningen, has promised a reworked course that brings the riders closer to the crowd around the bridge. The first race at the site, in November 2014, ended with Wout van Aert beating Mathieu van der Poel in a sprint, and Van der Poel went on to win here six times. Moving from the Christmas period to late January, Hamme will crown its first World Cup winner in 2027.
